Introduces faculty to the variety of resources and services offered by HCC Libraries, such as item requests, the LibLine blog, using RSS feeds to include library resources in your online courses, subscription database access, and round-the-clock help. In addition, the course will review the most recent copyright laws and related faculty responsibilities in your teaching regarding the use of resources created by and owned by others (i.e., the use of articles, images, video, and other online resources). The evaluation of common copyright questions and scenarios using the four Fair Use factors will be stressed. None

Presents the basic concepts, history, and definitions of digital audio and video; microphone placement, lighting, and basic camera shots; techniques for optimal digital audio recording with standard equipment; simple digital and video editing techniques; hardware and software needed to produce audio and video for distribution on tape, CD-ROM, or Internet; use of audio and video presentation with emphasis on effective pedagogy. Covers the basics that a first-tine DE faculty needs to know about how Distance Education operates at Houston Community College. It gives an overview of the responsibilities of a DE faculty member; shows what a DE online orientation contains; informs as to all the ways that the HCC DE department supports faculty and students; shows how to access faculty resources, such as existing master courses; allows participants to raise questions they have about the challenges of teaching via this mode; and addresses such common concerns as how to personalize the DE experience for students, how to reduce cheating and plagiarism, how to retain students. Covers 21st century online technologies, including social networking, wikis, blogs, and their uses in an educational setting. Participants will have an opportunity to create accounts using these various technologies, which can later be used in the ET1450 class. None

The companion class to ET1440. Participants must have already taken ET1440 to take this fully online class. Participants will actively participate in creating materials online based on what they have learned from the ET1440 class.

Creating Accessible PDF Files

Users will learn how to convert Microsoft Word and PDF files into ADA accessible PDF files for the web and using Adobe LiveCycle Designer, create ADA accessible interactive forms from scratch. None

Instructional materials are considered to be forms of communication between professors and students and must therefore be delivered in a manner that is equally effective for persons with disabilities. This class covers universal design and its effects on computer-based education, illustrates how to design "accessible" instruction, addresses student retention and participation, and provides reasonable accommodations for disabled students. The objectives of the Open Educational Resources class include Defining Open Educational Resources (OER); Learn why OER are important; Discover where OER are available; Learn to select, evaluate and use OER; Formulate a plan to use OER materials; Leave the training with OER for your course. None

A workshop designed to assist those seriously interested in creating Open Educational Resources (OER) materials by creating modules and/or collections on the Connexions Project. The workshop has a preparations part to be completed before the meeting in person. You will establish a Connexions account and create your first module using the workshop. Introduces Eagle Online, the learning management system (LMS) used by Houston Community College. In this training, you'll learn the basics of the most common tools in Eagle Online, planning and building courses based on methodology that supports student engagement and the learning outcomes designated for the course. You will select Eagle Online tools to build a learner-centered course that considers learner needs for organization, instructor presence and engagement. None
