Program Description
The purpose of the Instructional Technology program is to prepare faculty to integrate instructional technologies into their teaching practices. To complete the Basic Certificate, forty (40) hours of classes must be completed. To complete the Advanced Certificate, forty (40) more hours, plus a Portfolio Review, must be completed.
Face-to-Face classes vary in time, but are usually four hours long. They are designed to begin and end on time. If you miss the beginning of class, it would require stopping the training to catch you up to where everyone else already is, and this would take time needed to continue training. You need to be on time for the face-to-face classes. A class may end earlier than expected, but it does not begin later than the published schedule.
Online classes vary from one to two weeks, and are either instructor-led or self-paced. The instructor/facilitator of the class will contact you via your HCCS e-mail before the class begins to get you started.
Please be advised as of January 1, 2012, the CIT program will no longer accept WebCT I-V, Blackboard Vista 1-4, or Blackboard Vista Online workshops as credit for completion of Basic or Advanced Instructional Technology Certification. This policy is being implemented as both WebCT and Blackboard Vista are no longer supported by HCC in its online learning programs.
Upon completing the required hours, the faculty member should fill out the CIT Certificate Application Form. This can be done anytime after completion, but the paperwork for the stipend is only submitted once a semester. All information must be provided no later than the dates below:
Basic Certification:
Spring Semester: April 1
Summer Semester: August 1
Fall Semester: November 1
Note that the form requires you to add the list of classes completed (accessible from the CIT Training Records).
The Advanced Certification also requires you to schedule a portfolio review (see CIT Portfolio Review Form below) no later than the dates below:
Advanced Certificate
Spring Semester: March 15
Summer Semester: July 15
Fall Semester: October 15
CIT Portfolio Review Form
The CIT Portfolio Review Form was approved by the CIT Advisory Committee as the standard of quality assurance for all online classes. It is based on Quality Matters: Inter-Institutional Quality Assurance In Online Learning, from Mary Wells, 2006.
Applicants for the Advanced Certificate must design a class online using the Eagle Online e-learning system.. For more information, contact Robert Hume (robert.hume@hccs.edu).
