Our Mission - to lead HCC in creating a culture that expects and supports performance-based employee learning and training.  We support institutional goals and objectives by providing high quality, timely, and cost effective development programs and consulting services to HCC employees.

Our Vision - to be the training and organizational development provider of choice by all HCC administrators, faculty, and staff.

What does ELOD stand for?

How can I register for ELOD classes?
Registration is offered online from our Training web page.  Look for the Register for Training link. Online registration is now available via @ Your Service (PeopleSoft-HR).

Who can attend the College Leadership Program (CLP) classes?
Anyone who is a participant in the CLP program or anyone in a supervisory capacity, including department chairs, assistant chairs, program managers and all administrators.  Some CLP elective courses are open to all staff and faculty and are noted as such.

Is the College Leadership Program (CLP) required?
Yes, for all new supervisors and department chairs, whether new in this capacity, or new to HCC. Application forms and program information are on the HR/ELOD web site.

Is the College Leadership Program for everyone?
No, the College Leadership Program is designed to assist all supervisors (newly hired or promoted) including department chairs, by offering additional course work that will enhance their skills and success as leaders. Employees who aspire to be future supervisors must receive approval from their supervisors and be accepted into the program to attend

Is the CLP program open to anyone except supervisors and department chairs?
Yes, through the Pre-Entry Candidate provisions of the program. Individuals who aspire to supervisory positions are encouraged to discuss the program with their supervisors, and then complete the application form. A selection committee selects participants from this application pool.

Who can attend the College Office Professional Program (COPP) courses?
All HCC employees can attend these courses, both full-time and part-time. Be sure to discuss attendance with your supervisor before registering.

Is the College Office Professionals Program (COPP) required?
Yes, for all new clerical/secretarial support personnel, either new to HCC or new in this role.

I\'ve misplaced my latest HR News You Can Use. How can I get another copy?
Old issues of Frontline and HR News You Can Use are always staged on the HR web page under the HR News You Can Use link.

I am a part-time HCCS employee who recently became full-time. Should I attend New Employee Orientation?
Yes. Discuss your attendance with your supervisor. You should receive notification of orientation dates through the Employment Department and the ELOD department.

How do I register for New Employee Orientation?
New full-time employees are scheduled for orientation by the Employment Department. New part-time with benefits employees are scheduled through the Compensation department as their employment paperwork is processed. Supervisors of new hires can also call the ELOD office to follow-up on scheduling their new hires for Orientation. The employee should not call directly.

How can I find out how many courses I have taken in College Leadership and how many I have left to complete the program?
We hope that participants keep up with their course work through @ Your Service. However, when that is not possible, please contact our office so we may pull your profile.

Am I supposed to get a certificate every time I attend a CLP or COPP course?
Yes, certificates are either distributed at the end of the course or mailed to participants via interoffice mail.

Does your office offer training for separate groups/departments?
Yes, when scheduling permits. Please contact Connie Stone, Director.

I am a new Department Chair and have questions about how to improve the performance of my department. Can ELOD help?
Yes. ELOD can work with you to assess your department\'s performance and assist with improvement planning.

I would like for my department to learn more about customer service as a work group. Can ELOD help?
Yes. ELOD can provide customized training on a variety of topics for your work group at your location. Contact us at ELOD@hccs.edu

I think that my work group could benefit from additional training, but I\'m not sure what kind. What can ELOD do to help me?
ELOD can perform a Training Needs Assessment to identify areas where training could improve your unit\'s effectiveness. ELOD can identify appropriate resources to meet your training needs.

I am a new supervisor with several new employees. How can I help them get their questions answered?
Proper orientation of new employees is a crucial step towards success of that employee at HCC. The two-day system orientation is meant to be only the beginning. ELOD offers a booklet, "Orienting Your New Employee: A Supervisors\' Guide for A+ Results." It contains information about topics that should be covered with new employees during those critical first months. A hand checklist is also included.

Does ELOD offer computer-training classes?
Basic People Soft training (HR, Finance, and Student Administration) is offered by ELOD.   The Instructional Media Center (IMC) offers a variety of computer application courses in an instructor-led format.  In collaboration with the IMC and the ACT, ELOD provides the Ultra Online Training Program, interactive self-paced courses covering a variety of topics such as networks, computer operating systems, and desktop and office productivity applications, such as the Microsoft Office Suite.

Meet Our Staff

Connie Stone, Director

Connie has been involved in all facets of higher education and training and has a Master\'s degree in Training & Development. With HCC since 1983 and with ELOD since 1997, Connie was formerly at the College Without Walls (CWW) and prior to that, with instruction in the Technical Education Division. Before joining HCC, Connie was the Director of Training for a large government agency in Houston. She is a 2003, 2005, and 2007 member of the Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

Dominique joined the HCC team in August 2004. A MIS graduate from Southern Methodist University and a native Houstonian, she brings excitement, a wealth of ideas, and new energy into the department. In addition to technical support, Dominique is experienced in training, particularly PeopleSoft implementations.

Jan joined the Employee Learning & Organizational Development (ELOD) office in October 2005, after serving as a Job Developer at Central College for four years and managing the Student Job Placement Office at Northwest College for six and a half years.  She has designed and presented professional development workshops for faculty and staff, as well as job search and life skills seminars for students.  Jan is a certified AchieveGlobal facilitator and Zig Ziglar trainer, and obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of St. Thomas.

Evelyn joined Employee Learning & Organizational Development (ELOD) after working at the Southeast College for eight years. A past Training Facilitator for the Institute for Excellence, she most recently was a member of the Corporate Training and Continuing Education Department. In addition to designing and teaching job search and life skills workshops for students, Evelyn has developed continuing education courses for business and industry. Evelyn is a certified AchieveGlobal facilitator and Zig Ziglar trainer and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin University and a Master of Arts in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix.
