Frequently Asked Questions about Applying Online

Q — How do I find out what jobs are available at HCC?

You will need a computer with Internet access to obtain information about available openings and to apply for a position online. From the HCCS web site simply clicking on Jobs@HCCS. From the Job Opportunities page, click Search Jobs/Apply Online and follow the instructions.

Q — How do I apply for a job online?

The application process has three (3) simple steps:

Create an account user name and password.
Create your online application.
Apply your online application to a specific job opening prior to its closing date.
Once you have completed your online application, you are ready to use that application to apply for jobs shown on the job postings page. You can use the Search feature on the web site to find open positions that may interest you and for which you meet the qualifications. You may also use the same online application to apply for future jobs within HCCS.

*Be sure to remember your user name and password so that you can log back into the system at a future time.

Q — How does the application process work?

Applicants complete and submit their applications online from any computer with Internet access. All requested application materials must be received by the closing deadline stated on the Job Posting.

After the closing date, all applications are submitted to the hiring authority or screening committee (if applicable) for review. The duration of the review process varies by position. Anytime after the closing date of the position, you may check the status of your application by returning to the online applicant site using your personal user name and password. Those applicants selected for interview will be notified.

*The recruitment for Part-time Faculty and short-term temporary positions is different than other position types. Both position types accept applications for a POOL of qualified candidates. Applicants are hired based on need and on temporary assignment availability. There are no clearly defined closing dates for these positions since recruitment is on going until a qualified pool of applicants is gathered.

Q — Can I get help completing the online application?

HR staff members are available to help applicants get started and to answer questions about the new online site for applicants. You may visit the Human Resources Department Monday through Friday at 3100 Main, 3rd Floor, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 5: 00 pm. You may also call us at (713) 718-8565.

Q — Who will see my online application?

Your application information is located on a secure web server and will only be available to you (using your unique user ID and password), the Human Resources Department, and the applicable hiring officials for the specific job opening. The voluntarily provided demographic information is only available to Human Resources and is used for EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity) reporting purposes only.

Q — Can I save my application before I finish completing it?

Yes. Before saving, you must complete at least the required fields. Be sure to click "Save Application" on the last page of the application. You may return at anytime to continue or edit the application before applying for a specific position. If you exit the employment site without saving your employment application, your data will NOT be saved.

Use your user ID and password to access your application and to review the current status.

Q — How long does it take to complete the online application?

You should allow 20-40 minutes to complete the process. It is helpful to gather important information about previous work experience, education, certifications, etc. BEFORE you begin.

If you are missing a piece of information requested on the application, skip the field and go back later to complete it. It is important to remember to supply the missing information BEFORE you apply for a specific job opening.
