TEACHING & LEARNING EXCELLENCE PROGRAM

Target Groups: *adjunct (see prerequisite) and full-time faculty 
Curricula:  to complete this program 12 workshops are required including the 6 CORE and 6 electives

Please note: In order to receive credit for participating in workshops,
     you must be on time and stay the entire session.

Required CORE Workshops: 6 workshops

TL1011 - Writing Student Learning Outcomes & Course Objectives
The focus of this workshop is to enhance participants' knowledge and skills in creating and implementing student learning outcomes and course objectives based upon HCC's adopted standard. In addition, it addresses issues of instructional alignment and assessment.

TL1071 - Implementing Learning-Centered Teaching for Student Success
The purpose of this workshop is to provide a framework for understanding what a learner-centered instructional environment is. Participants will be asked to draft a philosophy of education based upon their understanding of key teaching and learning principles.

TL1080 - Rubrics and Measurements
Participants will consider and discuss the rationale and need for creating and using rubrics for assessment as well as how to effectively integrate rubrics into a course.  By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to identify the essential qualifies of a rubric, develop and employ assessment methods, and create a rubric using online software.

TL2005 - Academic Advising, Mentoring, & Tutoring
The purpose of this course is to review issues concerning academic advising, mentoring and tutoring focused on HCC students.

TL2075 - Improving Student Learning Through Active Engagement
This workshop is designed to enhance faculty knowledge and skills in designing a learner-centered course syllabus in support of implementing a learner-centered teaching approach.

These elective workshops are available from which to select to complete the remaining 6 workshops. 

TL1030 - Connecting with Students I
The purpose of this course is to support educators to develop more effective communication skills with students that motivate students and provide an excellent foundation for student-professor dialogue.

TL1031 - Connecting with Students II
This course is a continuation Connecting with Student I.

TL1050 - Multicultural Diversity in Higher Education
The purpose of this course is to support educators to toward honor multicultural diversity among their learners.

TL2015 - Classroom Management
The purpose of this course is to discuss how the integration of different elements in the classroom environment and provide excellent techniques for dealing with difficult challenges.

TL2025 - Creative & Critical Thinking
The purpose of this course is to promote critical thinking in college courses and in study.

TL2030 - Ethics in Higher Education
The purpose of this course is to understand the policies and laws that HCC employees are subject to as "public servants"" and to identify ethical behavior in relation to students.

TL2036 - Self-Directed Learning through Information Literacy
The purpose of this course is to consider effective communication strategies that will motivate students and provide an excellent foundation for student-professor dialogue.

TL2040 - How People Learn: Brain-Based Learning
The purpose of this course is to review how the brain learns and to consider implications of research  to learning and teaching in our own classrooms.

TL2045 - Internationalizing the Curriculum
The purpose of this course is to provide information to help professors create curricula that will relate to and communicate to students the importance of understanding the global environment.

TL2055 - Creating Learner-Centered Syllabi
Accreditation organizations are placing a high value on what students learn, thus, are holding colleges accountable for showing evidence of such. This workshop will enhance participant's knowledge and skills in creating and implementing syllabi focused on what students are to learn. In addition, it will inform participants of the standard components adopted by HCC that are to be included in course syllabi.

TL2065 - College Success for Students with Differing Abilities
The purpose of this course is to provide a framework for understanding various educational principles and practices related to the Americans with Disabilities Act and how they impact and foster the success of HCC students with differing abilities; in addition to how faculty can support and promote successful student outcomes.

TL3010 - Corporate Learning: Training & Performance
The purpose of this course is to understand Corporate Training role in meeting HCC's mission and strategic goals and the consulting role of Corporate Training to employers.

TL3015 - Service Learning: Teaching & Learning Pedagogy
This workshop will prepare faculty to revise their own courses to incorporate Service Learning that allows student to participate in an organized service activity that meets identified community needs, and to reflect on the service activity in such a way as to gain further understanding of course content, a broader appreciation of the discipline, and an enhanced sense of civic responsibility.

TL3020 - Learning Communities in Community Colleges
This workshop is designed to provide the framework necessary to create and sustain successful learning communities.  The tools from this workshop will provide assistance in developing shared syllabi, shared calendars, and shared activities for your learning community as well as provide techniques for marketing your learning communities.

TL3030 - Classroom Strategies for Developmental English
The intent of this workshop is to enhance faculty knowledge and skill in teaching techniques and strategies related to teaching Developmental English.

TL3040 - Grant Writing for Faculty
This workshop seeks to enhance faculty abilities to skillfully write and seek educational grant in support of teaching and learning excellence.

TL3050 - Battle of the Book: Combating the Textbook Reading Resistance
This workshop prepares faculty with strategies that can be implemented to increase textbook reading and comprehension among their students.

TL3075 - Teaching Workplace English for Speakers of Other Languages
The purposes of this workshop is to enhance participants' knowledge and skills in teaching workplace English to those who speak other languages.

TL5000 - HCC’s Emergency Response for Faculty: Active Shooter
This presentation will expose you to the proper behavior before, during, and after the unfortunate active shooter incident occurs in your work area.

These resources will not be provided by the workshop facilitator.

*Adjunct faculty must complete the Adjunct Success Program as a prerequisite to completing the TLE Program and becoming eligible for the stipend.

Stipend
A $250 stipend is offered to both adjunct and full-time faculty for completing this certification. For budget planning purpose, one must apply to graduate and participate in the annual graduation celebration.
