National Benchmarks of Effective Educational Practices
The educational research organization Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) identified five educational practices that when implemented result in higher levels of student success. HCC uses these benchmarks as critical indicators to measure its progress towards fulfilling its mission. Therefore, every program sponsored by HCC Center for TLE is founded upon these benchmarks:
- Academic Challenge
- Active and Collaborative Learning
- Student Effort
- Student-Faculty Interaction
- Support for Learners
These benchmarks encompass thirty-eight engagement items that reflect important aspects of the student learning experience, and are proven powerful contributors to effective teaching, learning, student retention, and student success.
