Fire Training
The Houston Community College Fire Training Academy (HCCFTA ) is a well-regarded fire service educational institution within Texas and throughout the nation. HCCFTA develops and provides accredited fire service training for all recognized levels of fire service training for all public and private sector first responders.
HCCFTA utilizes some of our nations best fire service instructors to deliver programs that meet and in many cases exceed national and internationally recognized standards.
Students must register for all courses in the semester, and all courses for each semester must be taken concurrently. Failure to successfully complete any of the requirements for any one course will result in a failing grade for all the courses in that semester. Each student must complete the first semester before being eligible to enroll in the second semester courses. As a minimum, each student must also complete an approved Emergency Care Attendant (ECA) course in order to be certified as a Structural Firefighter. HCC offers EMSP 1005, Emergency Care Attendant, as a non-credit course.
Basic Firefighter Certification
This certification consists of seven (7) courses in the basic preparation for becoming a firefighter in the State of Texas. Upon completion the graduate will meet the requirements set forth by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection for Basic Structural Fire Suppression. The academy is held at the Public Safety Institute located at Houston Community College - Northeast Campus, 555 Community College Drive.
Prerequisites - Applicants must meet all minimum entry requirements set forth by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and the Houston Community College District.

FIRS 1001 - Firefighter Certification I, 96 hrs

FIRS 1023 - Firefighter Certification V, 96 hrs
