Introduction to Emergency Medical Technician (EMT):
Basic. Includes all the skills necessary to provide emergency medical care at a
basic life support level with an ambulance service or other specialized services.
Upon successful completion the student will demonstrate a working knowledge
of clinical information and related topics relevant to the practice of pre-hospital
emergency medical care of the EMT-Basic level; demonstrate the ability to
competently perform all applicable skills; and exhibit attitudes and behavior
consistent with the ethics and professionalism expected of the EMT-Basic.
Prerequisites:
Emergency Medical Service Enrollment Requirements & Class Schedule (PDF)
- Applicants must be a high school graduate or have a GED
- Ability to read at a college level
Certification:
Texas Department of State Health Services and the National Registry of EMTs.
Courses:
Curriculum based on Department of Transportation National Standard Curriculum.
Students will learn basic care skills - Basic patient assessment / basic airway skills
and oxygen administration / bandaging and splinting / spinal immobilization /vital signs/
CPR / AED / Bleeding Control.
