What is online continuing education?

Online continuing education courses are non-credit hours generally characterized by the issuance of a certificate of completion.  Courses are completed entirely online.

 

What is the difference between an online course versus a traditional face-to-face course?

An online course is an electronic transfer of skills and knowledge via the Internet; it can be self-paced or instructor-led.  A traditional face-to-face course is in-person and generally lecture-based.

 

How long are the online continuing education courses?

Majority of courses are only six weeks to complete.

The certificate programs require six to twelve months to complete.

 

Is there an instructor online that I can ask questions?

For instructor-led courses, there is an instructor that will address student questions via message boards, discussion boards or by e-mail methods.  For courses that are self-paced, a content or subject expert will address questions via the same methodology.

 

Are the online continuing education courses all online?

Yes.  To access your online course,  the following are required,  Internet access, e-mail, Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox web browser, and Adobe Flash and PDF and any type of computer.

 

Are credit hours earned for an online continuing education course?

No.  All continuing education courses are non-credit; however, a certificate of completion is issued at the successful conclusion of the course. 

 

Are there entrance requirements or prerequisites prior to enrollment?

Online continuing education courses are open to individuals 17 years of age or older. No minimum grade point average or academic coursework is required. 

 

What kind of media format is used for online courses?

Text, image, animation, streaming video, and audio.

 

Are textbooks required?

All materials are included in the online course unless otherwise noted on course syllabus.
