Workplace English for Computer Support Specialist
Overview:
Workplace English for Computer Support Specialist is a course that assists and prepares
intermediate ESL students with the English language skills to enter the IT or Computer
Technology workforce as Computer Support Specialists technicians. Students with English
as a second language will acquire the English language skills needed to comprehend the
modules presented in the Introduction to Windows and the A+ Certification training and
to acquire the English needed to speak with the clients in the workforce IT settings.
Introduction to Windows:
A study of microprocessor architecture, file creation/deletion, data entry and manipulation,
automatic file execution, configuration, and directory commands. This is a hands-on course
where students will learn the basics of computer competency, terminology, and the Windows
environment.
A+ Certification:
The emphasis of this training is on microcomputers and required software components.
The topics include site preparation; installation procedures; components; power supplies;
modems; printers; switches; operating, help and security systems; packaged programs; utilities;
languages; and operating procedures. This is a fast-track training to prepare for the A+
Certification exam.
