Patient Care Technician

The Patient Care Technician is a certificate offered by HCC for students who complete the Certified Nurse Aide and Phlebotomy Technician certificates, and the EKG lab course, ECG 12-Lead Fundamentals. The Patient Care Technician, also known as a PCT, Level 3, is a nationally recognized certification for certified nurse aides with phlebotomy and EKG training.

The healthcare career ladder is structured so that there is a salary increase for each skill added to the basic certified nurse aide training. The Certified Nurse Aide and Phlebotomy Technician certificates are designated as HCC Marketable Skill Award certificates. The student may complete the Patient Care Technician certificate in 4 months if concurrently enrolled in all three courses of study.

Licensure/Certification:  
Certified Nurse Aide is state licensure. National certification in phlebotomy and patient care technician is offered by various agencies such as the American Certification Agency for Healthcare Professionals (ACA).

High School diploma or GED

NURA 1001 Certified Nurse Aide 96 hrs
PLAB 1023 Phlebotomy 96 hrs
PLAB 1060 Phlebotomy Clinical 120 hrs
ECRD 1091 EKG Lab 1. 12-Lead 32 hrs
Total   344 hrs
