Introduction to Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Intermediate Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Introduction to Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Includes all the skills necessary to provide emergency medical care at a basic life support level with an ambulance service or other specialized services.
Upon successful completion the student will demonstrate a working knowledge of clinical information and related topics relevant to the practice of pre-hospital emergency medical care of the EMT-Basic level; demonstrate the ability to competently perform all applicable skills; and exhibit attitudes and behavior consistent with the ethics and professionalism expected of the EMT-Basic.
Prerequisites
Emergency Medical Service Enrollment Requirements & Class Schedule (PDF)
- Applicants must be a high school graduate or have a GED
- Ability to read at a college level
Certification - Texas Department of State Health Services and the National Registry of EMTs.
Length of Program - 208 contact hours, earn 20.8 CEUs. Classes offered:
- Day (8a-4p)
- Night (6p-10p)
- Hybrid (course work online - meet on certain Saturdays for skills and testing)
Coursework
Curriculum based on Department of Transportation National Standard Curriculum. Students will learn basic care skills - Basic patient assessment / basic airway skills and oxygen administration / bandaging and splinting / spinal immobilization / vital signs / CPR / AED / Bleeding Control.
- EMSP 1001 Emergency Medical Technician - Basic 160 hrs
- EMSP 1060 Clinical - Emergency Medical Technology/Technician 48 hrs

Intermediate Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Introduction to the advanced life support program. Emphasis on the Department of Transportation Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)-Intermediate guidelines in all aspects of pre-hospital emergency care.
Upon successful completion the student will demonstrate a working knowledge of clinical information and related topics relevant to the practice of pre-hospital emergency medical care at the EMT-Intermediate level; demonstrate the ability to competently perform all applicable skills; and exhibit attitudes and behavior consistent with the ethics and professionalism expected of the EMT-Intermediate.

Curriculum based on Department of Transportation National Standard Curriculum. Students will learn advanced care skills - Advanced patient assessment / Advanced airway skills - endotracheal intubation, combitube placement, LMA placement / IV administration / Blood draw
