Clinical Care Specialist

The Clinical Care Specialist is a certificate offered by HCC for students who have completed both the Phlebotomy Technician and Certified Nurse Aide certificates.  A Clinical Care Specialist is also known as a Patient Care Technician, Level Two.

The healthcare career ladder is structured so that there is a salary increase for each skill added to the basic Certified Nurse Aide training.  The Certified Nurse Aide and Phlebotomy Technician certificates are designed as HCC Marketable Skill Award.

Licensure/Certification

Certified Nurse Aide is state licensure.  National certification in phlebotomy is offered by multiple agencies, such as the American Certification Agency for Healthcare Professionals (ACA) and the American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP)

Length of Certificate

Certified Nurse Aide certificate - 6 weeks/96 hours

Phlebotomy Technician certificate - 4 months/200 hours

The student may complete the Clinical Care Specialist certificate in 4 months if concurrently enrolled in both courses of study.

Prerequisites

High school diploma or GED

Coursework

NURA 1001 - Certified Nurse Aide, 96 hrs (Current CNA licensure accepted in lieu of NURA 1001 and 1060.)

PLAB 1023 - Phlebotomy, 80 hrs

PLAB 1060 - Phlebotomy clinical, 120 hrs
