Certified Medication Aide
The Certified Medication Aide certificate provides instruction in preparation and administration of designated medications by non-licensed nursing staff employed in licensed health care agencies, including the responsibilities associated with such administration. The student will learn about Department of Aging and Disability Services guidelines and responsibilities associated with medication administration.
Licensure/Certification: Successful completion of the Certified Medication Aide certification makes one eligible to take the State of Texas C.M.A. Certification Licensing Exam
Length of Certificate: 12 weeks/140 course contact hours
Prerequisites:
- Able to read, write, speak, and understand English
- 18 years of age High school diploma or GED
- Currently employed in a long term care facility (nursing home) as a Certified Nurse Aide.
- Or, employed as non-licensed direct care staff person at a licensed assisted living facility for 90 days by the first official day of class.
- Hepatitis B vaccination series initiated or waiver
- Immunizations
- Background check
Coursework: NURA 1013 Certified Medication Aide, 140 hrs.
