Houston Community College Nursing student Inez Goodman always wanted to work in the medical field. This month that dream will be closer to a reality for the mother of five boys.

‌‌She began her studies at another institution but transferred to HCC because of the warm and welcoming environment. A staff member encouraged her to get involved on campus as a student leader so she became Student Government Association (SGA) secretary and SGA president.

As SGA president, Goodman developed forums to make students more aware of services offered by the college. She also spoke with state legislators about student needs at the annual College Day in Austin.

Goodman demonstrated her leadership abilities by volunteering alongside HCC students for agencies such as the Houston Fook Bank and the American Heart Association. Her leadership efforts were recognized this year at the annual Student Awards Banquet where she won Outstanding President and Outstanding Student Organization.

“The faculty at HCC Northeast has been very, very good to me,” she said.

Goodman, who graduates on May 16, plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is grateful for the support of the students, staff and faculty who have helped to make her experience at the college very positive.
