A college education is more important than ever in today’s society and world of work. Most good-paying jobs today require at least a college certificate or associate’s degree.

Provisional pre-admission at HCC

HCC is provisionally pre-admitting 6th and 9th grade students to Houston Community College. A provisional admittance means that HCC will provide students with an opportunity to study at HCC as long as they meet the College's requirements for admission at the time of enrollment.

Scholarships

Planning for college and the future

The HCC Scholar Success Program is the first step in planning for college and the future.

Follow the steps below to participate in the program:

1. Signing the “Scholar Pledge” that he/she will:

• Stay in school and graduate from a Texas accredited high school.
• Participate in the HCC Scholar Success Program that will help them plan, prepare and pay for college success.
• Achieve a cumulative high school grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
• Apply for HCC admission and financial aid on time as a high school senior.</blockquote>

2. As part of the HCC Scholar Success Program, students will be assisted to:

• Improve reading, writing, and math skills.
• Engage in career exploration activities.
• Learn about college services and programs, including how to pay for college.
• Learn about strategies and techniques for effective study and learning.

Dear Family of an HISD 6th or 9th grader,

HCC wants you to know how important your 6th or 9th grade student is to the future of your family and the future of the city of Houston. As such, we are provisionally pre-admitting your 6th or 9th grader to Houston Community College today! A provisional admittance means that HCC will provide your 6th or 9th grader with an opportunity to study at HCC as long they meet the College's requirements for admission at the time of enrollment.

So we want you to start planning now for your 6th or 9th graders’ future! HCC currently has a Scholar Success Program, which, if available, can help overcome some of the financial obstacles that may present themselves as hurdles to education. We encourage your 6th or 9th grader to start NOW. The path begins if your 6th or 9th grader follows the following steps:

1. Signing the “Scholar Pledge” that he/she will:

  • Stay in school and graduate from a Texas accredited high school.
  • Participate in the HCC Scholar Success Program that will help them plan, prepare and pay for college success.

Your student may also be eligible for Financial Aid opportunities to assist them in covering the costs of their tuition, fees, and textbooks.
