About OISS&SA

The Houston Community College Office of International Student Services & Study Abroad (OISS&SA) provides information and programs to F-1 international students about the campuses and community and provides support and assistance concerning F-1 visas and related F-1 immigration issues.

Our Mission

The Office of International Students Services & Study Abroad (OISS&SA) will provide exemplary services for international students that include enrollment, registration, orientation, counseling, aid with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) rules and regulations, and other social integration needs. OISS&SA is committed to assisting international students and other non-immigrants as it relates to their student and immigrant status at HCC. OISS&SA is a reliable, knowledgeable and professional resource for international students engaged in learning and skill development.

The OISS&SA must receive your application on or before:

  • Fall Semester: July 1
  • Spring Semester: November 18
  • Summer Semester: April 1

Transfer student deadlines

The OISS&SA must receive your application on or before:

  • Fall Semester: July 31
  • Spring Semester: December 6
  • Summer Semester: May 1

**Note: the OISS&SA will only accept complete transfer packets - all documents must be submitted together.

*** Applications must be received or postmarked by the above dates. Applications will not be accepted after the deadlines. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Housing

Houston Community College (HCC) does not have housing facilities. All HCC students live off-campus and must arrange their own housing options prior to enrollment. HCC does not recommend any particular housing option, but below are a few options available for students' consideration (please contact the vendor directly):

HOMESTAY

 Rates:

  • $200 Placement fee
  • $575 minimum per month (room only)
  • $750 minimum per month (room with continental breakfast and dinner)
  • $210 refundable room deposit

Hotels

Hotels can provide students with short-term or, in some cases, long-term options for housing in the Houston area upon their immediate arrival in the U.S. 

One option is an extended-stay hotel, which is a serviced apartment complex that uses a booking system similar to hotels. The accommodations are similar to apartments, and there are no fixed contracts.

Another option is a conventional hotel, which students and their families can use upon their immediate arrival to the U.S. for a short term while they locate a permanent housing option.

Apartments are another alternative for students seeking housing arrangements in the Houston area, and many reasonable options can easily be found. Students can rent apartments prior to arrival by contacting an apartment locator, such as those at the Houston Apartment Association, who can help them find an apartment within their price range.
