What are the requirements to get a Lynda.com account under HCC’s contract?

Lynda.com is an online learning resource that HCC faculty and staff can use to learn software, web design, and business skills to achieve professional goals and improve work efficiency.  Lynda.com contains over 2,300 video tutorials on commercial and open source software applications, operating systems, programming languages, databases, and utility tools. 

 Lynda.com is an educational training and development resources funded by HCC’s Education Technology Council and managed by HCC’s Institute for Instructional Engagement & Development.

 What are the requirements to get a Lynda.com account under HCC’s contract?

  1. A user must be a HCC faculty or staff only, and have an HCCS email account. 
  2. After you have been given access, you must maintain consistent use of this privilege.  Failure to use this resource on a regular basis will result in your access privilege to expire.
  3. Per HCC’s license agreement with Lynda.com, it is a breach of contract for users to share their accounts with other individuals or groups internal or external of HCC.

What is the process by which faculty and staff may get a Lynda.com account?

NOTE:

You will need to provide your supervisor’s name, title, HCCS email address, and telephone number in order to process your request.

Please allow up to two business days for your employment status to be verified and account to be created at Lynda.com.

When your account creation process is complete, an email will be sent from Lynda.com with a link to set your password and begin taking online courses.

How does one maintain access to Lynda.com?

  1. You must remain active in each training session in order to maintain access to Lynda.com.
  2. Your login activity and online course progress will be monitored to maintain or revoke access to Lynda.com.
  3. Absence from Lynda.com for more than 4 weeks may result in account deactivation.
  4. If your account has been deactivated, you can register again.  (There may be a waiting list for gaining access again, if no licenses are free.)
