About Us

The Institute for Instructional Engagement & Development seeks to contribute to institutional excellence by bringing together student engagement leaders with faculty to explore fresh and proven approaches to teaching and learning.

The Institute for Instructional Engagement & Development team of credentialed instructional designers and certified faculty developers encourages and equips faculty to implement student engagement concepts. Institute for Instructional Engagement & Development collaborates with personnel at every level across the district and with external educational professionals to collectively offer HCC faculty a central point-of-access to the best and most up-to-date learning and growth resources.

Purpose/Philosophy/Vision/Mission

Purpose
The Institute for Instructional Engagement & Development (IIED) was established to provide district-wide leadership and relevant resources that supports student success as a result of performance excellence among instructional leaders, and full-time and adjunct faculty. This objective is accomplished through its three departments: the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE), Faculty Academy (FA), and Instructional Leadership Academy (ILA).

Philosophy
The Institute’s core strategy to support student success involves being highly responsive to the professional development needs of instructional leaders and full-time and adjunct faculty. This strategy includes developing and offering creative, innovative, and relevant programs and services that support exemplary performance resulting in greater student success as defined by HCC’s Strategic Plan “IMAGINE HCC 2019.”

Vision
The Institute will be the College’s premiere professional development unit that collaborates with responsible partners for delivering exemplary instructional leadership and highly effective teaching that results in greater student success.

Mission
The Institute strategically collaborates with leaders at every level across the district, and with external educational professionals to collectively offer instructional leaders and all faculty a central point-of-access to learning resources and growth opportunities that are research-based, most effective, relevant, and up-to-date.

IIED’s Departments
Center for TLE: offers to all faculty practical hands-on learning opportunities to design and develop relevant and engaging courses that strategically focus on the learning needs of today’s learners while increasing excellence in curriculum.

Faculty Academy: offers various training and development opportunities in support of both full-time and adjunct faculty in order to increase their instructional delivery repertoire and skills to effectively connect with today’s learners.

Instructional Leaders’ Academy: offers specialized training and development opportunities that results in exemplary performance as an instructional leader and mentor to faculty.
