Homecoming 2013 at Houston Community College packed a spirited punch. All of HCC's campuses rolled up their sleeves to show their spirit October 14-18, 2013. Highlights of the first day of HCC Homecoming celebrations at Central included a concert by Houston Hip-Hop artist Baby Jay. The events also included other activities that brought dozens of students out. The festive event concluded with a college wide pep rally held at Central College on October 18.

Dianne Johnson appointed HCC trustee for District V

The Houston Community College Board of Trustees appointed Dianne Johnson to temporarily fill the position as trustee for District V with a 5-0 vote on Thursday, October 17. Johnson will fill the position left vacant by Trustee Leila Feldman upon her resignation in September. Johnson was sworn in October 24 and will serve until the newly-elected District V Trustee from the November election is sworn-in.

HCC Northwest breaks ground on new Alief Career Center

Houston Community College broke ground on Northwest College’s new Alief Career Center, 13803 Bissonnet Wednesday, October 9. The 17,220-square-foot workforce building will be a state-of-the-art learning facility where students can train to qualify for certification in areas of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical and plumbing.

HPD recognizes HCC Public Safety Institute partnership

The Public Safety Institute at Houston Community College has played an instrumental role in producing highly trained and skilled first responders for emergency situations. Representatives from the Houston Police Department recently recognized HCC’s PSI for its successful partnership with local law enforcement agencies to provide continuing education and facilities for rescue and tactical helicopter training.

HCC Minority Male Initiative STEM Academy a success

The HCC Minority Male Initiative (MMI) STEM Academy’s Closing Ceremony was amazing. More than 237 youngsters from all over the city of Houston attended the closing ceremony on July 17, 2013.
