HCC has reached out to our communities, area businesses, and forged lasting partnerships that benefit students, local industries and neighborhoods. Working together, we can make this the most exciting and productive year ever.

District VII Highlights: Alief Career Center construction begins

Construction on the Houston Community College/Alief ISD Career Center on the HCC Alief Bissonnet Campus began in January and completion of the facility is expected to be in mid-July, 2014. The building will house programs designed to train Alief Independent School District and HCC students and certify or license them in the fields of electrical, plumbing and heating, venting, air conditioning and cooling (HVAC).

District VII Highlights: Plans moving forward with new workforce buildings at HCC Southwest

Recent demographic reports confirm that workforce certification is the future of Houston employment as its population continues to diversify. Houston Community College Southwest is answering that need with more skills training by finalizing plans for new campus buildings dedicated solely to workforce certification programs. Groundbreaking will begin in Fall 2014, with new workforce structures at HCC Southwest’s West Loop and Missouri City Campuses, followed by a project at the Stafford Campus.

District IV Highlights: Coleman PR Department wins 2013 Paragon Award

For the third year in a row, the Public Relations Department of HCC Coleman College for Health Sciences has been awarded Paragon Awards, the highest national honor in marketing and communications for two-year colleges. In fact, HCC Coleman has won two 2013 awards, which are handed out by the American Association of Community Colleges National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NMCPR).

Houston Community College announces new Oil and Gas Drilling Training Center

Houston Community College has embarked on a visionary project with the oil and gas drilling industry to change the way drilling rig crews are recruited, trained and developed. The HCC Global Oil and Gas Drilling Training Center includes a rig safety and skills laboratory on the HCC Northeast Campus. This skills laboratory will be known as “RIG-ONE" and will replicate the essential components of the rig work environment for new hires (Offshore Roustabouts/Onshore Roughnecks).
