What we do
Each division of the department, Community Development, Public & Media Relations, HCCTV, Print & E-Media and marketing works together, using their resources to empower stakeholders in the college to “tell the story” about the college’s initiatives, programs and messages through a customized communication model that effectively delivers their message.
Business of Diversity: Spotlight on Houston, a 30-minute TV special featuring HCC Chancellor Cesar Maldonado and others, will air Saturday, April 21 at 11:30 a.m. on KIAH-TV Channel 39, the CW Network.
Houston Community College is meeting the demand by connecting students to entry-level and advanced employment opportunities through career specific job fairs at which representatives from the automotive and transportation industry are recruiting current HCC students and graduates.
Houston Community College is on a mission to thrill and educate young students in simulated flights to Mars, the Moon and beyond. The flights will blast off at the new Challenger Learning Center, where elementary, middle and high school students will be taught how to apply the STEM subjects of science, technology, engineering and math to a trip to outer space.
The HCC women's basketball team won the National Intramural Recreation Sports Association (NIRSA) Region 4 Tournament, held March 23-25 at Texas A&M University.
For many college students, having to choose between lunch or gas for their car, paying for rent or purchasing textbooks for the semester are real issues. Students' needs, such as food and housing, have a major impact on their sense of belonging, persistence, graduation, and overall academic experience.
The focus of the event was centered on educational best practices (K-12 & Post-Secondary), entrepreneurship, and Fab Lab/Makerspace start-up – operations and training. The symposium also featured various equipment vendors, who displayed a variety of Fab Lab/Makerspace gear and provided training sessions.
The new Culinary Arts Center is being constructed on parking lot 10 at HCC Central Campus, right next to the college's five-story parking garage near Alabama, La Branch, Winbern and Austin streets. The building will be two stories tall and will comprise 38,000-square-feet. Construction is expected to take about two years.
Law enforcement relies on HCC to deliver trained police officers. The police training center is located at the Public Safety Center of Excellence on the HCC Northeast Campus, 555 Community College Drive, Houston, TX 77013. HCC students win big at MFAH fashion show. The runway show was held as a follow up to the recent blockbuster Oscar de le Renta exhibit at MFAH. Judges included Fady Armonious from Tootsies, Sameera Faridi Design Studio Creative Director Sameera Faridi, and PaperCity Art Editor Catherine Anspon.
Using Stanford University’s Virtual Heart Program and the new state-of-the-art virtual reality lab and studio now available at Houston Community College, students and faculty can transport themselves inside the human heart to see how it functions when experiencing abnormalities. They can even begin surgery to fix any problems they discover – all in a risk-free, virtual environment.
