A marketable skills achievement award is a workforce continuing education program that meets the minimum standard for program length specified in the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Some programs are available for financial aid.

Marketable Skills Awards

HVAC Technician
Introduction to HVAC principles, terminology, tools and skills. Study and practical application of air conditioning principles, including air properties, maintenance operations, thermodynamics, and compressors. A series of four courses providing training that covers the principles and practices of HVAC maintenance, repair, hazard and safety practices. 

Electrical Technician l & ll
Introduction to Electrical Principles, terminology, tools and skills. Study and practical application of electrical systems including voltage, current, resistance and power. Compute circuit sizes needed for installation of branch circuits, feeders, and service entrance conductors according to Electrical codes.

Property Management
A comprehensive study of residential property management using textbook study with computer training and hands-on approach to train and educate property management professionals. The course is ideal for leasing agents, property managers, assistant property managers, and individuals wanting to enter the property management profession but lacking college credentials. The course is designed to provide the student with a sound knowledge and understanding of property management in multi-family situations.  The course includes professional development courses, real estate specific software, legal issues, and an internship. The course is also designed for current property managers who simply want to improve proficiency and be updated on changes in the residential property management industry.

Air Conditioning, Bilingual
A study of components, applications, and installation of mechanical air conditioning systems including operating conditions, troubleshooting, repair, and charging of air conditioning systems. The class will prepare the students to work in apartment complexes in air conditioning maintenance or assist in residential A/C installation and services. Students will learn field terminology in English to facilitate professional and technical growth. After completion of this class students will be prepared to take the EPA Certification Test.

Certified Nurse Aide
Acquire the knowledge and skills needed to safely care for residents/patients/clients in all health care settings.  The class provides special focus on safety, the rights of all residents/patients/clients, and the ability to function within the practice scope of a CNA.  This tri-level course includes:  1) theory, 2) skills lab, and 3) clinical rotation in a long-term care facility.  After successful completion, you are eligible to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP).

Child Development Associate (CDA)
This series of three courses (144 hours) provides training that is required to apply for the Child Development Associate credential sponsored by The Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition. This is a study of the principles of normal child growth and development from conception to adolescence. The focus will be on cognitive, physical, emotional, and social development.

Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
Cisco Networking Academy offers Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) courses using Cisco’s on-line curriculum. This certification consists of 40 weeks of instruction delivered over the course of four 10-week semesters. Students are prepared for the CCNA exam at the Academy and referred to an independent test site for certification

Commercial Truck Driving
The truck driving program is designed to prepare students for an entry-level truck driving position. The program consists of two courses taken as a block. The courses cover: federal, state and local regulations, hours of service rules, and includes behind-the-wheel (BTW) training.

•The six week program meets Monday thru Friday - 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.

•Program starts every two weeks.

•The twelve week weekend program meets Thursday - 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays - 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.

•Program starts every twelve weeks.

•Bilingual six week program is also available.

Desktop Support and Networking Specialist Program
A nine-week course that offers an excellent foundation for Cisco –CCNA.  The program includes Operating Systems as well as hands-on training. The CCNA courses using Cisco’s on-line curriculum consists of 40 weeks of instruction delivered over the course of four 10-week semesters. Students are prepared for the CCNA and A+ exams at the Academy and referred to an independent test site for certification.

EKG Technician
The EKG Technician certificate is designed to prepare students to take a national certification examination. EKG technicians are trained to record and monitor the heart’s electrical activity.They prepare patients for various methods of EKG testing, Holter monitoring, and assist physicians with stress (exercise) testing. Trained to recognize and evaluate heart rhythms, the graduate is qualified to work as an EKG monitor/telemetry technician.

Licensure/Certification:  National certification in EKG is offered by multiple agencies, including the American Certification Agency for Healthcare Professionals (ACA) and the Cardiovascular Credentialing Institute (CCI).

Patient Care Technician
The Patient Care Technician is a certificate offered by HCC for students who complete the Certified Nurse Aide and Phlebotomy Technician certificates, and the EKG Lab I – 12 Lead. The Patient Care Technician, also known as a PCT, Level 3, is a nationally recognized certification for certified nurse aides with phlebotomy and EKG training.

The healthcare career ladder is structured so that there is a salary increase for each skill added to the basic certified nurse aide training. The Certified Nurse Aide and Phlebotomy Technician certificates are designated as HCC Marketable Skill Award certificates. The student may complete the Patient Care Technician certificate in 4 months if concurrently enrolled in all three courses of study.

Phlebotomy Technician
Phlebotomy Technicians are trained to perform a variety of blood collection methods. The coursework includes theories and principles related to obtaining blood specimens from patients, including adults, children and infants. Emphasis is on safety, patient identification, quality assurance and specimen handling. The Phlebotomy Technician certificate is designated as an HCC Marketable Skill Award certificate.

Licensure/Certification: National certification in phlebotomy is offered by multiple agencies, including the American Certification Agency for Healthcare Professionals (ACA) and American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).

Welding Technician 1 Program
Introduction to Welding Multiple Processes: Basic welding processes, including oxy-fuel welding (OFX) and cutting, shield metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GNAW), and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW).

Comprehensive Coding Certificate
In-depth study of ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding for skills development in medical coding systems.

Medical Business Office Professional
Comprehend medical terminologies, acronyms, and abbreviations.  Identify various health insurance plans and procedures, as well as, acquire the skills necessary to navigate medical billing software and expedite claims processing

IT Support Specialist
A program providing training to individuals desiring entry into the technology field.  STRATA is an entry level IT course that covers settings on a basic PC workstation, installing software, identifying compatibility issues, as well as, recognizing and preventing basic security risk.   A+ provides students with a solid foundation in PC Hardware and Operating Systems.   Network+ trains students to install, setup, test, maintain and troubleshoot LAN and /or WANs.

Microsoft Certified Solution Associate (MCSA)
Microsoft Certified Solution Associate (MCSA) for Server 2012 is a new certificate program in the Microsoft IT Academy. Upon program completion and earning of an MCSA:  Windows Server 2012 certification will qualify students for a position as a network or computer systems administrator, or a computer support specialist.  Attaining this certificate demonstrates that students have the primary set of Windows Server 2012 skills relevant across multiple solution areas in a business environment; to reduce IT costs and deliver maximum business value.
