About Language Programs
There are a number of opportunities available at Houston Community College to improve your english language skills. Our Languages and Citizenship department teaches English to adults through a curriculum that helps students learn the language skills for work and day-to-day life in the United States. The classes cover speaking, listening, reading and writing, along with vocabulary and grammar. We have lessons and activities that give you practice with real-life experiences such as filling out forms, reading labels, preparing for college and finding jobs.
Study with us and get ahead in your career and in the workplace. Take a placement test to place you in the most appropriate level in our English Language Skills programs. Our courses are organized to follow successful completion from one level to another. The level-based courses focus on English-language communication skills that include listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar. There are two HCC pathways for English language learners: The part-time ELS program and the CE Intensive ELS program. We offer introductory, intermediate, and advanced courses to improve English-language learning, grammar and communication skills with listening, speaking, reading, and writing classes.
